Saint Joseph and the Christ Child by Guido Reni, 1640
St. Joseph's Church in Boronia originated from the Ferntree Gully Parish, becoming its own parish in 1964, with Father J.L. O'Neill as the first parish priest overseeing the growth of the area, its school, and buildings on 16 acres at 212 Boronia Road, eventually leading to the formation of other nearby parishes like
St. Bernadette's and St. Luke's as the population expanded.
The parish's history reflects the rapid growth of the Knox area, with its early focus on establishing Catholic education through
St. Joseph's Primary School, which started classes in 1964.
